Improving Your Child’s Concentration

improving-your-childs-concentrationChildren with autism see things differently. It’s almost as though there is a filter in place that heightens even the faintest of sights, sounds, smells, and tastes. This “filter” makes it a bit harder for autistic children and children with other developmental disabilities to process the data they are receiving all at once.

CAMEN Academy For The Performing Arts is here to give you a few tips on how you can help your child develop their concentration skills:

  • Teach them about making eye contact
One of the biggest problems children with Autism Spectrum Disorders face is making eye contact. This skill is also a great way that can help your child pay attention to other things that are out of their realm of interest.
  • Give close-ended activities a try
Since the goal is improving your child’s concentration, our Performing Arts Education in Orlando, Florida advises that you try out close-ended activities every day. These are short activities with a specific and definite goal.
  • Doing activities of interest
A great way to develop your child’s ability to focus is by engaging your child in activities that they are interested in. But make sure that the activity you choose with your child involves cooperating with other people.
  • Praise them
Make sure to reward or praise your child every time you notice them paying attention. But make sure to be specific when you are rewarding or praising them. Let them know that you are doing this because they were able to focus on specific tasks or follow specific instructions.
